Self-Care Tips for a Fresh Start

Taking liquid supplements. We have all heard the “new year, new me” dialogue as people wrap up the end of a year and transition to the start of a new one. January isn’t always the most inspiring of months — probably because of the combination of cold weather, post-holiday recovery, and the general push to resume routine.

Despite this sentiment, here are some self-care tips that could help you get through a gloomy January with some positive reinforcement at your fingertips.

1. Journaling and Jotting

How about a low-cost investment into organizing your thoughts and addressing concerns or negative energy? It’s hard to be motivated about your health after the holidays, weeks of festivities, socializing, and a deviation from routine. Journaling could be a soothing way to relieve stress and create a plan of action to help you tackle what’s to come.

2. Schedule Health Visits

Start the year off by reviewing all your necessary check-ups and annual visits. Try to book your appointments and add them to your calendar so you’re all set for the year.

3. Prioritize Relaxation

Consider aromatherapy as it helps promote a sense of calm. Essential oils or sprays containing magnesium, lavender, and ylang-ylang could help decrease anxiety and promote good sleep.

4. Keep Your Body Moving

Exercise is the most underutilized anti-depressant and often helps alleviate stress and soothe the nervous system with a healthy injection of energy for the rest of the day. Bonus tip: Morning workouts are often the best because they could complement your circadian rhythm. Lunch-time workouts are also beneficial because they could help prevent that extra cup of coffee from giving you the mojo!

5. Incorporate Vitamin & Supplements

Many people start the year with lower energy and a lack of motivation, and while there is no vitamin or supplement cure, some concoctions have been shown to help boost mood and energy. Incorporating a daily vitamin D (in addition to as little as ten minutes of actual sunlight) could help! Other supplements include magnesium, ashwagandha, and vitamin C.

Try not to be so hard on yourself! You are in it for the long haul, and every day counts, so create a balance between structure and self-care to stay consistent.
