Repeat After Me…Let It Go

A woman with open arms.“Let it go, let it go…” Is Frozen still a thing? I’m sure it is if you have little kids, but mine aged out of this phase a while ago. But I digress. Today, I want you to be like Elsa and let it go because June 23 is also known as Let it Go Day.

This is the day for YOU to let go of any negativity, guilt, anger, etc., that you’re holding on to because it’s not worth it. And take it from me; you’ll feel so much better if you do.

The day was founded in 2006 by Thomas and Ruth Roy to help motivate people worldwide to forgive themselves and let go of past worries and negative thoughts. They wanted to promote finding peace, positivity, and contentment in life.

Look, everyone has a lot going on in their daily lives, and we often don’t carve out enough time for ourselves since we’re so concerned with everyone else. But that needs to change.

I get it – hello, mom guilt! But let’s give ourselves the grace to reflect on things that may have too much of a hold on us and release them into the world. Release the negative energy, anger, guilt, or anything else weighing on you and free your mind (En Vogue reference anyone?). But if you’re burdening yourself with negative thoughts and what-ifs, think about how that may also affect others around you.

If you’re not showing up as your best self and being present, others can sense that and feed off that negative energy, which becomes a vicious cycle.

It can be difficult to let things go – take it from me. My husband makes fun of me for grudges I’ve held since fifth grade (I’m a work-in-progress). So I know we can all benefit from letting these trivial things fall by the wayside.

A great way to do this is to carve out some quiet time for yourself. Maybe light a candle, grab your favorite beverage, and sit down and write a list of all the things you’re holding onto that you’re ready to release. At the end of the process, you can choose to rip up the paper or cross off all the items as a way of releasing them from their hold on you.

I guarantee your mind will feel lighter and more clear. And there’ll be more space for all the positives. You’ll begin to notice them more and really appreciate all the wonderful things happening around you.

So please try it out. You’ll feel so much better and allow yourself a happier outlook on life.
