Popcorn Lovers Day

Hands reaching for a bowl of popcorn.Did you know that March 13th is Popcorn Lovers Day? I think this is a great excuse to plan that family movie night you may have been putting off. It’s the perfect time of year to do so. Winter sports are over, and the spring season has yet to begin. So what does that mean? More free time!

You and your kids have more time to relax and share fun moments as a family instead of rushing here and there.

Fire up the popcorn maker – or get some bags popping in the microwave. You can create a toppings bar to incorporate lots of different flavors like pizza seasoning, cinnamon sugar, ranch, or caramel sauce. Add in a candy bar mix-in station using favorites such as M&M’s, Reeses Pieces, and Junior Mints. From savory to sweet – there’s something for everyone.

Since it’s March, there’s still likely a chill in the air. So, if you have a fireplace, light a cozy fire and throw down some pillows and blankets on the floor for the ultimate movie night set-up. Have the kids help plan the movie snacks menu because there’s so much more to be had in addition to popcorn!

Perhaps everyone can make their own personal pizzas or have breakfast for dinner with waffles, scrambled eggs, and bacon. Grilled cheese bites or chicken fingers work, too —anything you like. The possibilities are endless!

If the kids are a bit older, the hardest part might be deciding which movie to watch. Perhaps introduce them to one of your favorites from the ’80s or ’90s. Some of my favorite choices are Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and The Goonies. A Disney classic is always a good time.

Whatever it is, keep the popcorn flowing, the snacks plentiful, and the seats cozy. Family movie night is a great way to spend an evening reconnecting with your loved ones.
