May is National Barbecue Month. If you’re not ready to break out your own grill, this month, we are spotlighting our top choices for BBQ and southern eats in Westchester County. From Pleasantville to Cortlandt Manor to Hawthorne to Mamaroneck…we’ve got you covered!
Angela’s Picks:
Southern Table Kitchen & Bar (39 Marble Avenue, Pleasantville): A “modern take on the classics!” Southern Table promises to bring classic Southern-style cooking with a bit of a creative twist, and it delivers! They use only farm-fresh ingredients in their dishes. Appetizers include signature staples like fried green tomatoes and pork sliders and Asador Corn, which is wood-fired corn served off the cob, aioli, lime, and cotija cheese. For lunch and dinner, you’ll find Shrimp and Grits, Chicken and Waffles, and Cajun Gumbo (shrimp, mussels, chicken, andouille sausage, and saffron rice).
The menu specifies vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free dishes, and family-style takeout options are available too. Taco Tuesdays are $21 for unlimited tacos (dine-in only), plus drink specials. Southern Table has truly found a perfect balance of comfort and nuance, including their dessert menu. Dine-in, takeout with no contact delivery, and outdoor seating in a large and roomy space are available too.
Pik Nik BBQ (45 Main Street, Tarrytown): “Amazing brisket!” In addition, they offer everything you’d expect to see on a BBQ menu – ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, and of course, fried chicken – which takes an extra 20 minutes to prepare according to their menu! Homemade Gumbo and homemade Smoked Meat Chili are on the menu every day, along with some interesting sides like baked beans with sausage and potato salad and bacon. Delivery and takeout are available, as well as patio/outside dining.

Three Little Pigs BBQ (481 Commerce Street, Hawthorne): They offer all the BBQ classics you desire – brisket, pulled pork, pork bellies, local sausage, rotisserie chicken, ribs, jumbo turkey legs, and corn fritters! Family packs range from $60 to $180 and include brisket, pulled pork, sausage, pork belly, smoked wings and ribs, and a choice of sides. How delish does smashed sweet potatoes sound? Don’t forget the Fried Oreos and Fried Twinkies for dessert! Pick-up and catering are available.

SmokeHouse Tailgate Grill (320 Mamaroneck Avenue, Mamaroneck): “So good!” You can find many original items on their menus that sound so tasty! Brisket Empanadas (braised brisket, onion, mozzarella, and sauce) and Skirt Steak Chili (with avocado, scallions, and sour cream) for appetizers. The tacos have a fresh, fun spin too – Sesame Pork Tacos with pickled onions; Jerk Brisket Tacos with aioli, cabbage, and scallions. If you cannot make up your mind, Mixed Grill sounds phenomenal – chicken, ribs, and brisket, with pork and beans, cornbread, and veggies. And who doesn’t love a place that sells their own swag and their very own “Tailgate Rub” too? They also have a space in New Rochelle, which they hope to reopen soon. Dine-in, take-out, no contact delivery, and catering are available.

Little Cabin Sandwich Shop (3787 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor): “My husband had driven by Little Cabin Sandwich Shop and finally stopped in after wanting to do so forever! I think he’s in love – he said that if there’s ever a time when he seemingly disappears from home, and I don’t know where he is, he is probably at the Little Cabin Sandwich Shop. He brought home the Brisket Balboa sandwich (pictured) for himself, my son, and my daughter. He picked up the Chicken Carolina, chicken, homemade BBQ sauce, pickles, and buttermilk coleslaw. We wolfed these things down! Amazingly delicious sandwiches.”
In addition, Little Cabin Sandwich Shop sells soups, salads, and bowls too. And this one sounds so yummy – the Chili Bowl, which is Smoked Brisket, Smoked Pulled Pork, beans made with a variety of dried peppers, sour cream, pico de gallo and served on top of rice! Kids menus are available too. There is a small dine-in area, and pick-up is available.
