Spotlight on Westchester :: Eastchester

We all love our own little cozy corners of Westchester. There are many things to do and see, places to eat, and parks to visit. Who doesn’t love exploring the county and “finding” the kid-friendly gems! We are spotlighting some of the best places so that other moms can take advantage and get a glimpse into what we love the most about Westchester! Read all posts in our Spotlight on Westchester Series.

Spotlight on Eastchester, Westchester County, NY.I am the luckiest mom in the world for ending up in Eastchester with my family. I moved here five years ago from Staten Island and found myself in an affordable town with great schools, restaurants, parades, parks, and even a town-owned country club. If you live here, you’ll find yourself connected with other families for years. You will watch each other’s kids grow up, play Little League together, and enjoy every summer at Lake Isle Pool. If you’re visiting, you’ll find great restaurants, bakeries, and parks. Let’s explore all that Eastchester has to offer.

About Eastchester

Located between Tuckahoe, New Rochelle, and Scarsdale, Eastchester is the hidden gem of Lower Westchester. Eastchester seems small, spanning just 3.126 square miles, but it has everything. Once your kids start school, you’ll see the same families at every town and sporting event. Town pride can be seen from our Gold Star Mom Memorial Park to the “Hometown Heroes” flags that line the main street all year. There are beautiful homes on every street and reasonably priced places to live, such as Interlaken Gardens and Garth Road. The center of Eastchester also has the beautiful Lake Innisfree, home of a few Bald Eagles!

Things to Do

Visit Lake Isle Pool, Golf, and Tennis

Eastchester has an amazing and unique feature: a town-owned Country Club. It features five pools, including a baby pool, an Olympic-sized pool, and a diving pool. Everyone in town joins the pool for the summer (for a pretty low price), and then the kids spend all summer together. Anyone outside of Eastchester can visit the pool at a daily rate, so if you live close by, come check out the pools with the kids!

Catch a Concert at Lake Isle

The same place that provides golf, tennis, and pools hosts many great summer concerts featuring local bands performing original music and covers. It’s a fun and free experience for kids and adults, and we welcome anyone from any town to join us!

Watch a Baseball Game

Eastchester families are very involved in baseball. Most kids (girls AND boys) join for at least a few years because it’s so popular here. The best thing about the league is that there is always a spot for any kid, regardless of “skill” or special needs. It bonds us all together, and we have gorgeous fields like Garth Road (with a concession stand and playground)! Because our Little League is so much a part of the town, we all get involved in getting big names in baseball to come to special events. We even had Doc Gooden from the Mets come to opening day! (Not to drop names, but Harrison Bader of the New York Mets is also from Eastchester).

Try the Restaurants

For such a small town, Eastchester has a lot of restaurants, and they’re all amazing. For a date night, Peter’s Steakhouse serves up delicious and savory dishes. I love a girls’ night at Tutta Bella, a classic Italian restaurant with a truly beautiful atmosphere and welcoming and attentive staff. The BEST burger in Westchester (no, literally, the best) is at Piper’s Kilt. My husband is a Mets Fan, but even he makes an exception for the “Bronx Bomber Burger” because it is so good.

Whenever I say I live in Eastchester, most people immediately talk about Eastchester Fish Gourmet, an intimate setting with fresh dishes that create a romantic date for any couple. We also have Burrata, Mickey Spillane’s, Wood & Fire, and Polpettina which are all great options for a night out.

Check Out Broken Bow Brewery

This brewery has a real family vibe and welcomes kids, dogs, and video gamers like my son (it has an old-school video game system that kids and dads love). It usually has a featured food truck every weekend and fun events like Yoga & Brews, so I highly recommend a visit!

Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River

Since 1974, there has been a tradition of shutting down the Bronx River on Sundays in May, June, and September so families can ride on the scenic path without cars around. It is not just for serious cyclists; it creates a beautiful experience for kids growing up in Westchester to appreciate the nature surrounding us.

See a Parade

Eastchester loves a good parade, and all the kids in the town participate in it in one way or another through sports and activities. The most popular parades are St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, and Columbus Day, which ends with a festival at Lake Isle.

Columbus Day Carnival and Festival

For 50 years, the town of Eastchester has filled the Lake Isle parking lot with rides, funhouses, carnival games, crafts, food, and desserts to celebrate Columbus Day. Every year, the carnival gets bigger and better, and it’s a wonderful memory for the kids!

Greek Festival

Every September, the Holy Trinity Church in Eastchester has a festival with rides and food that the kids love. It has been called the Westchester “Greek Event of the Year.” This year, it is September 12-15.

Honor Our Veterans

Eastchester is proud of our veterans, displayed in our “Gold Star Mothers” park. A beautiful statue and monument sit on a major street throughout the town, offering a solemn place to pray, reflect, and honor the men and women who served our country.
