The Magic of Christmas When Life May Not Feel So Magical

0

christmas magicWhile watching the movie Elf with my daughter, snuggled up on the couch, the magic of Christmas took over.

For the first time in months, our hearts were filled with joy. We were lost in the magical sense of Christmas and its childlike wonder.

After a long year filled with disappointments, the simplicity of the elves’ finding joy in the little things was refreshing. It gave us a moment to exhale and not focus on anything serious.

After this much-needed exhale, I realized the magic of Christmas is not lost this year. It may look different within our adult eyes, but in the eyes of a child, the wonder and magic still exist.

So, for those longing for Christmas magic, pause momentarily and gaze at any child. Pure magic comes alive within their glowing eyes and hearts as the sparkle within them ignites the magic for our much-weighted-down adult hearts during a difficult time.

I need some magic, sparkle, and just about anything right now to lift me, and I’m starting with the simple things.

1. Time with those I love.

I miss my friends and family who don’t live nearby, but they are always a call or FaceTime away.

2. Good ole family time.

Playing board games, puzzles, or baking while listening to loud holiday music is always a fast way to lift my spirits. It brightens my day within minutes. It’s simple, fun, and filled with laughter!

3. Gift giving over receiving.

The magic of giving fills my heart beyond measure. Many neighbors nationwide face financial challenges, so let’s spread some magic. Donating items (new or gently used) to a local community center to provide holiday gifts for a family, volunteering at your local food pantry, or dropping off food items in need are all simple ways to add some magic to a holiday.

4. Love. Just spread the magic through love. You can’t go wrong!

As I watch this silly movie and laugh with my daughter, the magic of Christmas and spreading cheer fill my heart with joy. It reminds me to spread the magic to others through one simple blessing…love.

May the magic of Christmas lift your spirits and fill you with love.
