February 28th is known as National Floral Design Day. I bet you didn’t know that! Well, neither did I. However, I think it’s the perfect day to buy flowers for yourself, a loved one, or a friend and enjoy the day and some of the beautiful things nature offers.The day was initially created to help celebrate the birthday of Carl Rittner, who founded the Rittners School of Floral Design in Boston over 60 years ago. The day was proclaimed by Governor William F. Weld of Massachusetts in 1995 and has been celebrated ever since to celebrate Rittner and the art of floral design.
But I’m using this day as an excuse to buy yourself some flowers. Yes, just like Miley said! It’s the end of February, and we are getting closer and closer to spring. I can feel it.
This is the perfect time to bring some bright and beautiful florals into your living space to help make things feel more cheery, vibrant, and alive.
Of course, you can bring in a little design creativity and make your own arrangements if you’d like. Many stores sell a great selection of inexpensive flowers. Buy a few different bunches, and play around with color, size, and shape to create your own special bouquet unique to you and your space. Who knows, perhaps you’ll be inspired not just by Miley but also by Carl!
