Are we really just six weeks away from a new year?! As we wrap up this year with an entire holiday season ahead of us, I wanted to share an out-of-the-norm wellness checklist that I feel is a great way to refresh for the new year.
1. Review your employee benefits.
This is especially important if your benefits renew on January 1st. Now is the time to explore your entire benefits package and understand coverage for annual and specialty services such as physical therapy, nutrition, acupuncture, and other ancillary services. Many insurance plans now offer these services with a co-pay, so it is good to review everything in detail.
2. Set up your HSA/FSA.
A “health savings account” or “flex spending account” are pre-taxed accounts that allow you to set aside funds for medical expenses. It would be best if you verified what medical expenses will be covered. Also, an FSA is available year to year, but an HSA carries over even if you switch or leave a job. These funds could pay for various items such as prescriptions, new eyeglasses, nutrition consultations, and more.
3. Conduct a pantry sweep.
Though it seems tedious, this is a great time to review your pantry and check all expiration dates. Many products expire within one year, so reviewing and throwing stuff out is always good! If you haven’t opened something, it is also a good sign to move on from the product or think you’ll eventually try it.
4. Clean your makeup.
Believe it or not, most people do not clean their makeup brushes regularly. This time of year is a busy social season for most, but it is also a beneficial time to clean all your makeup and review all your makeup products. I love this makeup and drying holder.
5. Schedule your Q1 health appointments.
Most doctor’s offices allow patients to schedule their Q1 appointments by the end of the previous year, so if you have yearly check-ups that need attention, get ahead of the game and book yourself ASAP! You could also create a well-visit calendar for the whole family and add them as reminders on your phone so you are alerted accordingly.
