This month we are spotlighting our top choices for some Mediterranean cuisines. From Mount Kisco to White Plains to Armonk to Bronxville…we’ve got you covered with some delicious choices for Greek, Israeli, and Georgian food!
Elia Taverna (502 New Rochelle Road, Bronxville): “They have amazing gyros!” Authentic Greek cuisine with a huge menu – they have over 25 appetizers – ample salad choices, which you can top with your choice of grilled chicken, gyro, chicken gyro, falafel, grape leaves, grilled shrimp, or grilled calamari. And of course, many traditional faves such as moussaka, spanakopita, pastichio, and baklava for dessert. A kids menu is available, as well as, catering, delivery, dine-in, or take-out.
Meraki Taverna (450 Main Street, Armonk): “Traditional Greek staples served up in a more refined fashion than many of the other Greek restaurants in the area. Meraki is a welcome addition to the community! I love the gyro and zucchini croquettes. They also make an amazing cauliflower dish.” Meraki Taverna offers a large selection of traditional and modern Greek dishes, sometimes combined into one dish! They boast that all of their dishes have the Meraki touch, which translates to doing something with love, passion, and a lot of soul. Open for dine-in, take-out, and delivery. Catering is available as well.
Falafel Taco(30 Wheeler Avenue, Pleasantville): “It is an Israeli/Mediterranean/Mexican fusion spot. You wouldn’t think those things would go well together, but they totally do.” The story of how the restaurant came to be is adorable! They call it MexRaeli Cuisine. For example, they have a Mexican Matzoh Ball Tortilla Soup, a MexiGhanoush dip, and Mexican Latkes for an appetizer. The Tel Aviv Taco exhibits the best of MexRaeli: fried fillet fish, shredded cabbage, Mexican brown rice, black bean hummus, and chipotle mayo. You have to check this place out! A kids’ menu is available. Catering, delivery, dine-in, or take-out are also available.
Badageoni Georgian Kitchen(26-28 Main Street, Mt Kisco): “Very unique, authentic and fresh fare, unlike anywhere else I’ve eaten in Westchester. Affordable and offers interesting wines. The cheese bread is delicious and the Pkhali platter is very flavorful and distinct. Lots of yummy meat dishes like slow-cooked beef. Napoleon cake dessert is a must-try with light layers of pastry and cream.” Badageoni was opened by siblings Inga Duignan and Giga Jankarashvili as the county’s first (and only) restaurant to offer Georgian cuisine. They were given a Michigan Bib Gourmand designation, which marks a restaurant that offers a high-quality dining experience at a reasonable price typically meaning two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for around $40. Delivery, dine-in, or take-out is available.
Nikos Taverna(287 Central Avenue, White Plains): “I love their grilled shrimp. The flavor and authentic seasoning are amazing!” Nikos has been a White Plains staple since 2005 and their menu offers all the Greek food faves. If you can’t narrow down your choice of an appetizer, you cannot go wrong with the Hot Pikilia Sampler: zucchini fritters, meatballs, house-cured pickled vegetables, cheese, and tzatziki. They put a different spin on their Pan Pizzas, as they are cooked Detroit-style (a rectangular pizza with a thick crust that is crispy and chewy). And top it off with your choice of Greek wines. They offer catering, delivery, dine-in or take-out, with a lovely outside dining area.
