Spring Style: 3 Easy Wardrobe Refreshes

0

After a long, cold (and very snowy!) winter, spring has finally arrived here in Westchester County. The crocuses are popping up, our dogwood tree is starting to bud, and despite those wild weather swings—70 degrees one day, snow the next—we’re officially turning the corner.

If your entryway looks anything like mine lately, it’s been a jumble of boots, Crocs, cleats, and coats for every possible temperature—sometimes all in a single afternoon. But now that spring is here, I’m more than ready to pack away the heavy winter gear and hit reset.

One of my favorite seasonal rituals is a full closet refresh. I go through everything—editing out what’s worn out, outgrown (hello, kids!), or just not getting worn anymore. It feels so good to clear the clutter and make space again. And as a little reward for all that purging? I treat myself to a few thoughtful wardrobe updates that I know I’ll actually wear.

Here are three easy, mom-friendly updates I’m loving this spring.

1. The Trench

A trench coat is truly a spring MVP—perfect for commuting, school drop-offs, errands, and everything in between (especially those April showers). While the classic khaki will always be in style, there are so many fun options now—cropped styles, relaxed fits, and fresh colors. I personally rotate between a stone-colored, car-length trench and a longer black one with a detachable hood. It’s one of those pieces you’ll reach for year after year.

2. New Sneakers

Nothing gives you that “fresh start” feeling quite like a new pair of sneakers. This spring, I swapped my go-to white pair for something a little warmer—a monochromatic tan style with a textured, knit upper and suede trim. They still feel clean and minimal but add a softer, more relaxed vibe. They go with everything, from leggings on busy mornings to casual dresses on the weekend. Bonus that they are super light and comfortable!

3. Shades

A new pair of sunglasses is my favorite little spring pick-me-up. Last year, I had fun with a white, retro-framed pair for a special trip, but this season I went with the same shape in tortoise. It’s a bit more everyday-friendly and works with just about every outfit. They’re essential for those bright afternoons on the playground and car pooling, or when girls’ night out was more than two drinks!

The best part about all of these pieces? They’re timeless, versatile, and easy to mix into what you already own. Perfect for building a simple, functional wardrobe that works for real life here in Westchester.

Here’s to lighter layers, longer days, and finally getting out the door without checking the weather a zillion times and tripping over shoes for all the seasons!
