It’s summer! The season of BBQ’s, beach days, and splashing in the pool. And with that comes – you guessed it – bathing suits. July 5 is National Bikini Day, which got me thinking: no matter what, just wear the suit!
Odds are you’ve heard that before, but that’s also probably because at one time or another you’ve either dreaded going bathing suit shopping or putting one on to strut your stuff at the town pool. And I’m here to say (and to hopefully finally make you believe it) wear whatever bathing suit you want! Nobody cares (I promise). And if they do, are they really worth your time and energy anyway?
But first, a little backstory on the trendy two-piece. It may be hard to believe, but on this day in 1946, the bikini bathing suit debuted in Paris. Designed by Louis Reard, he named the suit after the Bikini Atoll, a coral reef in the Marshall Islands where the US conducted atomic tests.
Definitely an interesting origin story of a new and daring fashion trend. Although many European women quickly embraced the bikini, it took until the 1960s for the US to catch on.
Whether you want to rock a bikini, one-piece, tank, or anything in between, just do it! Wear what makes you feel the best and brings out your confidence. Life is too short to worry if you have too much cellulite, stretch marks, or a little extra padding around the middle.
Your confidence will shine through no matter what you’re wearing as long as it makes you feel good. Enjoy your summer, jump in the pool, run in the ocean, and live your best life!
