September 20th is also known as National Pepperoni Pizza Day. I bet you didn’t know that. Well, neither did I, but it definitely sounds delicious.
Think of it as a jumping point for a fun, do-it-yourself family pizza night, a time for your busy family to sit down and create something great together.
Did you know that the first pizza was created by Raffaele Esposito in 1889? He was inspired by Queen Margherita of Savoy and named his pie in her honor. The topping colors (tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella) represent the Italian flag. Nowadays, pepperoni is one of the most popular toppings on the American palette.
We all know it’s hard to always eat together as a family, especially at the beginning of the school year, when sports and activities start. But this is the perfect excuse to do so and have fun along the way. Find a time to sit down and make a shopping list of all the ingredients each family member would like on their pizzas. Go shopping together and maybe pick up some extra fun items for dessert (ice cream bar, anyone?).
Set a date for pizza-making and enjoy the family bonding time together. Perhaps you can make it a once-a-month event and switch up the themes: breakfast for dinner, taco bar, movie night, etc.
It’s easy, fun, and inexpensive. Family pizza night gives the whole family something hands-on to look forward to.
Even if you choose not to top your pizza with pepperoni – shh, I won’t tell.
