Chasing New Experiences With Kids in Tow: Meet Jess

Jess H and Kids on a river boat in LondonHi, I’m Jess, a mom of two, lover of a good road trip, and someone who somehow made a career out of being really good at planning fun things to do with kids.

I live in southern Westchester with my husband, our two kids, and two rescue bunnies who, much to my delight and slight regret, live range-free in our house.

We moved from the Upper West Side to Westchester in 2014, and it felt like home from the moment we pulled into the neighborhood. My husband grew up in the area, and our kids now go to the same elementary school he once did.

As someone who moved around constantly growing up, there’s something really grounding about raising my family in a place where we feel such a sense of community.

After becoming a parent, I realized how overwhelming it can be to find fun things to do with kids without spending hours researching.

Sometimes all you need is a fenced-in playground. Other times, you want to eat dinner in the oldest restaurant in the state or find a hotel with an indoor waterslide and arcade.

I’m a planner by nature, and I started by sharing the kinds of experiences I was always searching for… unique, worthwhile, and surprisingly doable.

That’s how Travel Like Jess began. And over the years, I’ve come back to a few guiding thoughts on family travel:

  • You don’t need a long trip to make a big memory.
  • There’s always something new to discover… especially close to home.
  • Raising adventurous kids starts with the energy you bring, not the distance you travel.

I joined Westchester County Mom to connect with other parents who get that. If one of my posts makes your weekend a little more fun or helps you try something new with your kids, that’s exactly why I’m here.

Jess is the founder of Travel Like Jess, a family travel inspiration resource that helps parents plan fun, doable getaways across the Northeast. Known for her interactive travel maps and well-researched itineraries, Jess makes it easier for families to discover unique spots that are kid-approved and parent-friendly. After spending a decade designing luxury jewelry in New York City’s Diamond District, Jess shifted her creative energy into planning experiences over objects…though she still appreciates a good sparkle. She’s called Westchester home for the past 11+ years, living with her husband, two kids, two bunnies, and a running list of weekend adventures. Jess is a firm believer that experiences beat material things (though she’ll always say yes to champagne) and often convinces her family to swap birthday gifts for hotel stays and concerts. She’s organized, spontaneous, and constantly reminding herself (and others) to run your own race, whether it’s travel, parenting, or anything in between.
