Can AI Be Tamed? with Sebastian Benthall

May 19 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

As AI makes its way into our lives, we see that along with the great potential, there are significant risks, including deepfakes and disinformation, massive job losses, security threats, loss of human interaction, and an uncontrollable self-aware AI. However, laws and regulations have been slow to address these outcomes. Can a legal response effectively lower the risks of AI while allowing us to reap its benefits? NYU senior research fellow Sebastian Benthall explores how AI is regulated in Europe and the United States and whether these safeguards will be enough. He also addresses what action people can take to reduce risk in a world with more AI.

Dr. Sebastian Benthall is a Senior Research Fellow at the Information Law Institute at the New York University School of Law and a Research Scientist at the International Computer Science Institute. His work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the Microsoft Corporation. He is also a member of the Westchester Community for Ethical Culture.

Sunday, May 19; 11-12:30 p.m.; 7 Saxon Woods Road, White Plains, NY.
